You continue to mouth the top-down party line. It's just so much bullshit.

The people at the top, the real people at the top, couldn't care less about you or me. They care about the money that they can get from you and me to make thier lives better at our expense.

When are you going to realize that as far as they are concerned you and that "crack-head" you mention are one and the same person. Just more sheep to be fleeced.

To them you are just an ATM and when you run out of money they'll just toss you aside and go on to the next money machine.

Do you really think Kerry will not make it worse?

I look at what I make, what were investing and what we will be getting from our investments in 12 years. If Kerry is elected and is able to roll back the Bush tax cuts I will have to invest less which translates to working longer to retire. I don't know about you but, retiring at 62 is a whole lot better then 72.<hr /></blockquote>Anyone who knows anything about investing knows that while the stock market has had long stretches of both ups and downs, investing in the long run provides handsome returns (I believe it's somewhere around 10%).

As an investment prospectus says, past returns do not predict or guarantee future performance.

Sorry to be so gloomy, but I think the world has changed to a volatile state where patience in investing won't necessarily pay off. Until the climate of war and terrorism are under control - and I see no end to the current situation - I'm not a big believer in the stock market. (Though I still invest in stocks, for various reasons I've been focussing on bonds.)

To clarify, let me make it clear that I'm a firm believer in the free market. But sometimes adjustments must be made.

Ask yourself the question Reagan asked: Are you better off than you were four years ago. I say no.

The gap between rich and poor is increasing, and has been for some time. The numbers of uninsured people in percentage and absolute terms are growing. While I've been trying to determine which numbers are real and which are political, we have fewer jobs today than we did four years ago and the new jobs pay less than the ones we lost.

One reason I favor Kerry is because he will face a Republican Congress. He'll be like Clinton and not be able to do the damage he wants.

Conversely, a Bush adminsistration with a Republican Congress would be dangerous. A Bush free to not worry about reelection is a nightmare.

So you favor stagnation rather than direction? I would postulate that Clinton did plenty of damage. If he had done something about Osama bin Laden, for example, 9/11 may not have happened.

Actually a President with his own party controlling the Legislative branch faces challenges that an opposing party dynamic does not pose. In addition, Bush will not be able to run for re-election. This also changes the sructure within the party. I think you favor Kerry because he turns you on. And that's just wrong.

Heck Trav, I wanna retire at 55! But I know reality is that I will have to work til I am 75 no matter who gets elected! They both have their rich friends they have to appease once they are elected.

If ever a candidate comes along proposing campaign finance reform, they will have my vote!

Ever hear Bush or Kerry mention CFR? I haven't!

Detroit, MI - After four years of a president who makes excuses in an attempt to cover up his failures, John Kerry Wednesday called for a new direction in America while laying out the economic case against George W. Bush in a speech at the Detroit Economic Club.

When it comes to the economy, Kerry?s speech noted that George Bush has been the ?Excuses President.? He wants Americans to believe that his failed record is the result of bad luck, not bad decisions, and that he?s faced the wrong circumstances, not made the wrong choices for middle-class families.

Kerry criticized the president for using excuses to cover up his wrong choices, and he outlined the Kerry-Edwards plan to build a stronger America where every family has the chance to work hard and get ahead.

?After four years of hearing no from this president ? no, it?s not our fault; no, there?s nothing wrong; no, we can?t do better; no, we haven?t made a single mistake ? it?s time for a president who will start saying yes,? Kerry said. ?Yes to good jobs with higher wages; yes to affordable health care and middle-class tax cuts; yes to a government that lives within a budget and businesses that can out-compete anyone in the world.?

Over the past four years, middle-class Americans have faced difficult economic times as a result of George Bush?s wrong decisions. They are making $1,535 less while paying more for health care, gasoline and education. In Michigan, Bush?s wrong decisions on the economy have cost workers 245,000 jobs and 162,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs

The president likes to make up excuses for his failures, but the truth, as Kerry emphasized today, is that Bush?s failed record is due to his failed policies and choosing to put special interests over middle-class families time and time again.

?We know the truth,? Kerry said. ?George Bush?s failed record is the result of George Bush?s failed policies. And he chose time and again to do nothing to improve our economy or ease the burden on middle class families. In fact, nearly every choice has made it worse. You can even say that George Bush is proud of the fact that not even failure can cause him to change his mind.?

Kerry stressed that every time George Bush has the opportunity to make a choice, he has failed to choose middle-class families. He has shifted the tax burden on to middle-class families while giving tax breaks to the wealthy few. He has given billions to drug companies while doing nothing to control costs for seniors. He has stood by while oil companies rake in record profits and families are squeezed at the pump. He has praised outsourcing and refused to enforce our trade agreements while American jobs are shipped overseas.

Kerry and Edwards know America can do better and have a four-part plan to strengthen and expand the middle class.

First, they will create good-paying jobs in America by ending tax breaks for companies creating jobs overseas and cutting taxes for 99 percent of taxpaying corporations. They will help American businesses compete and create jobs by enforcing our trade agreements.

Second, the Kerry-Edwards plan will strengthen the middle class by cutting taxes and lowering health and energy costs. 98 percent of families will get a tax cut under their plan, which includes up to $1,000 in health care premium relief.

Third, they will restore America?s competitive edge by ending energy dependence and investing more in research and development.

Finally, they will restore economic confidence by cutting the deficit in half in four years and paying for every proposal.

?John Edwards and I believe that the measure of a strong economy is a growing middle-class where everyone has the chance to work hard and get ahead,? Kerry said. ?And that?s why we are determined to set a new direction for America.?

W has no more control over this than you or I Pina... Oil is finite and our consumption isn't. Unless people make a fundamental change in their lifestyles (like that'll fucking happen), oil prices will remain as they are.

I like the article you posted but I'm skeptical of political promises in a presidential election year. It's not like we haven't heard these same promises over and over and over and over from every politician seek office.

Why is your boy Kerry going to be different when he'll be up against a Republican majority congress most likely?

Face it Pina, it's not a question of whether Kerry can deliver on even a third of his promises. He can't and he won't. It's not Kerry's fault. It's the way our government works and it's the way we Americans live.

This is entirely irrelevant to the discussion. But then...we can say the exact same thing about Bush doing nothing about bin Ladin.

Did anyone happen to notice Gov. Pataki's speech at the Republican National Convention? He invoked the words "9-11" at least 10 times, and maybe double that. Even had a few of New York's finest mug for the cameras.

Funny that he never mentioned bin Ladin. Not once. Zip. Zero. Nada.

...and there's a good reason for that.
